Hormiga Subiendo al Árbol

Hormiga Subiendo al Árbol (蚂蚁上树  - Ants Climbing the Tree) is a publication that recounts the experiences of young people of Chinese origin in Spain through their personal testimonies.
The pages bring together stories in the form of essays, photography, poetry and other artistic manifestations with the aim to show these second generation migrants’ realities. The goal is to create a space where the diaspora can meet each other, as well as to serve as a means of communication with the rest of society.
Hormiga Subiendo al Árbol (蚂蚁上树  - Ants Climbing the Tree) is the name of a typical Sichuan food dish that is made with beef or pork in sauce with soy noodles. It turns out that when this food is cooked the little pieces of meat stick to the noodles evoking an image similar to that of ants walking along the branches of a tree. In Spain it attracts a lot of attention just because of how it is called.
This name symbolizes the encounter between what comes from China to Spain; a translation of a name and a dish that has been adapted to Western tastes. Somehow, the experience of people of Chinese origin who have grown up here is similar.
On the other hand, the very origin of the name of the dish also reflects the journey that these young people live; a tree created from collective stories and experiences.
